another one got it wrong

Paul Davis from communitymx rant about open source and money
oh boy... here we go again

so on this post The irony of open source software, I tried to put a comment

this one

look at this http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/selling.html

you are stupid

it's not because people put a paypal link or ask for donations on an open source project that the guilt is harrassing to the point you feel you have to give money

not only you got it all wrong with money related to open source, yes you can sell support/manual/customizations/etc.

but you really understand open source philosophy in a strange way "I know several projects I’d love to contribute to if they had an alternate license for those contributing"

oh yeah you got really an "open" mind ...

and I received that answer
Sorry, that entry was determined to be spam or contain bad words.
Well woupihou, I called the guy stupid, well sorry he is!

To go a little further on my comment, being open source has nothing to do with the fact to make money (or not) out of it.

You apply your copyright on a software project and then you give the right to others to use that same project because with your rights you can apply a license to it.

Wether you decide to go with an open source license or a commercial license, it's your choice and money or time have few to do with it.

But in any case, you own the rights and you decide in which limits a user of that project will be able to use it, modify it, contribute to it, etc.

And if you go for an open source license and decide to put a donation link for it, well that's your choice too.
And I'm saying that even being against those donations link, but I also put great value in people freedom, so ultimately if someone working on an open source project want to put a donation link I think he/she should be free to do that too.

Associating a donation link with guilt is just being a selfish morron, when I see such way to turn a phrase
So, for those open source author’s – put up and shut up or write commercial software, but don’t think using guilt, pity or such to garner donations is in the spirit of the open source philosophy.
I find it highly despicable and completely contradictory to the open source philosophy cited in other part of that lame article

And when I see this
At a bare minimum, setup a license for those who want to contribute so that the viral nature of the GPL doesn’t apply to them and then, maybe you’ll get something for your hard work.
followed by that
I know several projects I’d love to contribute to if they had an alternate license for those contributing
I could only advise Paul Davis to go fucking learn what is the open source philosophy because he obviously got it wrong.
